Video: Archaeology and the Exodus from Egypt Posted: 21 Feb 2012 12:25 AM PST A post from Justin Taylor's excellent blog. James K. Hoffmeier is Professor of Old Testament and Near Eastern Archaeology at Trinity International University, Divinity School. Since 1994 he has directed the North Sinai Archaeological Project. Oxford University Press published his books Ancient Israel in Sinai: The Evidence for the Authenticity of the Wilderness Tradition (1999), and then Ancient Israel in Sinai: The Evidence for the Authenticity of the Wilderness Tradition (2011). (His latest book, co-edited with Dennis Magary, is entitled Do Historical Matters Matter to Faith? A Critical Appraisal of Modern and Postmodern Approaches to Scripture [Crossway], with contributions from Darrell Bock, Craig Blomberg, Alan Millard, Eckhard Schnabel, Robert Yarbrough, etc.) Below is his fascinating lecture from the Lanier Theological Library on what recent archaeological and geological work in North Sinai tell us about the exodus from Egypt: |

Learning to Stand (Ephesians 6) from Tim Challies Posted: 21 Feb 2012 12:22 AM PST A post from Tim Challies. Read the whole post on his blog page. My recent studies of Ephesians have marked me deeply. It may be that the most important application to my life has been in the awareness of Satan's work around me and, on that basis, learning how to stand firm. Ephesians 6 is a powerful call to be aware of the enemy and his army; it teaches that there is an enemy who devotes his entire existence to the destruction of God's work and God's people. Every Christian is engaged in battle against him. |
Meet Jonathan Edwards: Introductory Lecture Posted: 21 Feb 2012 12:21 AM PST A post from Desiring god.org and an introductory lecture on Jonathan Edwards' theology with time markers in the post on subjects covered. Spiders, hedonism, revivals, and the mysteries of the trinity — Jonathan Edwards's mind was rich and his writings are prolific. Digestible overviews of his life and writings are always appreciated. During the recent conversation between John Piper and Douglas Wilson, mention was made of moderator Joe Rigney's trip to New Saint Andrews College in Moscow, Idaho in March of 2010. Joe is Assistant Professor of Theology and Christian Worldview at Bethlehem College and Seminary where he teaches undergraduates in the Christian Worldview Program and courses on Jonathan Edwards at the seminary. It was on the trip to NSA that Joe delivered an introduction to Jonathan Edwards, his theology, his writings, and his life and legacy. A video of the lecture and ensuing Q&A session is online. Timestamps follow. Lecture time-markers — 04:14 — 1. Edwards on the Trinity Q&A time-markers — 34:04 — Edwards on typology Joe has also written a series of blog posts on Jonathan Edwards: |
